Tinsel! Twinkling lights! Gift
wrap everywhere! Christmas was coming and Jeffrey was too excited to be
still! When he was standing still on the outside he was still bouncing on
the inside. Gifts? Gifts under the tree! Big ones, little ones, fat ones, skinny ones. Jeff didn’t know what was in them, but he knew what he was hoping for. There was one that puzzled him though. It was a different size and shape, and wrapped in plain white paper with a beautiful red bow. It had Jeffrey’s name on it, but he couldn’t think of what it could be. Even on Christmas morning when it was so much fun to open gifts, Jeffrey shied away from that box. “Go ahead, Jeff,” Mother urged. “It’s great, and it’s for you!
“But I like gifts wrapped in fun, pretty paper—like snowmen, redbirds, or
jingle bells, — or the ‘Christmas Grinch’— not just plain white paper!”
God offers you the best Christmas gift you could ever
receive!
It is
eternal life!
It is forgiveness of your sin, peace in your heart, a
home in Heaven, and much more. God offers it to you in a special wrapping,
in the Person of His only begotten Son,
the
Lord
Jesus Christ.
The Baby in the manger that first Christmas Day
became the sacrifice for sin on the cross of Calvary. The pure white paper
on
Jeffrey’s box speaks of the righteousness of Jesus
Christ and the pure clean heart He gives to all who trust Him. The red
ribbon stands for the precious blood of Jesus shed for our sins. Some
children want to be saved from sin and hell, but they don’t want to yield
to the Lord and have Him rule their lives.
Some want eternal life by joining a church or
being baptized. They think that is ‘good enough.’ Some think they are
already ‘good enough’— they don’t say bad words, smoke, do drugs,
mock
their
parents,
or
treat
others
mean.
Many want God’s
gift
but
in
their
own
wrapping
— church membership, baptism, helping the poor
or old folks, or other “wrappings”. But “God hath given to us eternal
life, and this life is in his Son” (I John 5:11). If you receive a gift
from someone who loves you, you must accept it in the wrapping they
choose. God loves you, and Christ so loved you that He died for your
sin.
Now
if
you
want
salvation,
you
must
receive it in the only wrapping God offers — “The gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Jesus said, “I am the
way...no man cometh unto the Father except by me” (John 14:6). “He that
hath the Son (Jesus Christ) hath life” (I John 5:12).
Tinsel and toys will not last, but God’s Christmas
Gift
will
last
forever!
Will
you
accept
His Gift?
Will you now repent of your sin and receive Jesus Christ as the
only
Savior?
(John 1:12).
Then you will have His joy in your heart, not
just at Christmas, but year-round. |
