An Excerpt

Eric Henry Liddell was born in 1902 to missionary parents who were serving in China during the chaotic aftermath of the Boxer Rising.  He took his schooling in England and began running races while a student at Edinburgh University.  When he chose no to race on Sunday in the Olympic Games, the decision was made without fanfare.  After winning his Olympic medals in 1924, he completed his training and was accepted to serve in China with the London Missionary Society
